Coordinator for Shelter Operations and Volunteer Staff

This individual will become part of a team of three that is responsible for the 24/7 operation of the homeless shelter in Middlebury. We are looking for an energetic, smart, fun, multi-tasking, personable person who is looking for meaningful work that really makes a difference in the community – not just “a job”. The position requires scheduling flexibility and is ideally suited to an individual who wants and can benefit from a flexible work week. Job responsibilities include: (1) manage shelter reservations; (2) nightly intake of new guests; (3) promote a trauma informed living environment; (4) support the well- being and self-improvement of guests; (5) help guests secure stable housing; (6) maintain harmony among guests; (7) facility and equipment upkeep and cleanliness; (7) crisis management; (8) recruit, train and schedule volunteers; (9) support the organization’s long standing partnership with Middlebury College; (10) become proficient in the data management system used to support guest’s in securing stable housing; (11) become part of the team of community partner organizations supporting those who are homeless or at risk in finding or stabilizing housing. Client Support Services Manager

This staff person will be responsible for: (1) conducting trauma informed interviews on barriers to securing stable housing with several clients each week; (2) entering data from interviews in a Statewide database; (3) tracking of all interviews and follow-ups to interviews; (4) representing Charter House Coalition at weekly meetings of local social services partners committed to providing support services to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless; (5) maintaining a secure list of local individuals and families needing assistance with securing stable housing; (6) staffing our Day Station one shift per week; (7) conducting intake for the shelter operations two evenings per week.    Prerequisites include considerable experience or training in data entry and social services, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and commitment to serve homeless individuals and families. Training in trauma informed practices for interviewing is desirable. The position will start at 30 hours per week and has the potential to expand to full time. Work hours have and require some flexibility.

Overnight Staff

Are you interested in helping your community? Join Charter House Coalition in providing a safe, welcoming and warm space for those in our community who are experiencing homelessness.

We are looking for individuals to provide overnight staffing each night of the week for the winter season Oct 14, 2019 to Apr 20, 2020. Shifts are from 9:00 pm to 9:00 am.  The shelter will house up to 40 guests each night including 5 families. Responsibilities include overseeing the safety and security of guests, laundering of linens, general housekeeping, and management tasks.  Staff are expected to be awake through the night. Training will be provided. Demonstration of excellent communication skills is required. Prior experience in supporting individuals under stress and those with mental illness or substance abuse challenges is desirable.  Some training in health and safety protocols is a plus.
