Charter House Coalition Seeks Manager for Food Programs

Charter House Coalition is looking for a Manager for its food programsThis individual will lead a team that is responsible for providing all meals for the Charter House homeless shelter and Community Meal programs in Middlebury.   We are seeking a person who is looking for meaningful work that makes a difference in our community – not just “a job”.

This staff person will be responsible for: (1) overseeing all aspects of preparing and serving three meals daily for guests of the shelter and the one Community Meal each day that is open to all who seek nourishment and time with friends; (2) maintaining Servsafe practices in the kitchen.  Pre-requisites include: (1) hands on experience in providing 150 to 300 meals a day in a commercial or institutional kitchen including food acquisition, preparation and clean up; (2) proven track record in managing paid staff and volunteers; (3) ability to adjust meal plans to effectively utilize large donations of unprepared and fully prepared food from many sources; and (4) a strong desire to support the needs of individuals who are homeless or food insecure.  This is a full time position.  Work hours require some flexibility.  Resumes should be emailed to  

Overnight Staff Position

Charter House Coalition is currently looking to hire an energetic and compassionate individual to join our Overnight Shelter Staff. The primary responsibility of our Overnight Shelter Staff is to assure the safety and well-being of each shelter resident and to maintain structure and routine that promotes individual learning and growth while building respectful and trusting relationships.  Training is provided.

Charter House is a low barrier emergency shelter serving up to 24 individuals. Our team also provides staffing to area hotels that are helping to meet the high demand for emergency housing due to COVID-19. By definition, low barrier shelters meet people where they are. Regardless of a person’s circumstances, the individual is welcome to seek shelter and receive supportive services and professional connections to needed resources.

Overnight shifts are 10 to 12 hours and may or may not include weekends and holidays. Qualified candidates will have the ability to work independently while being committed to becoming an intricate part of our team. Strong communication, sense of fairness, crisis management skills, and a commitment to being a positive role model are required. Experience working in social services is a plus.
